On Wednesday, November 26 at 5:30 PM, the Old Sacramento Waterfront transforms into the Holiday District for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the first performance of the beloved Theatre of Lights. This free, family-friendly tradition blends historic charm with holiday magic right on the streets.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s Happening Opening Night<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

November 26, 2025  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5:30 PM<\/strong> \u2013 Live performances by local favorites, like Sac Dance Lab and Sacramento\u2019s Gay Men\u2019s Chorus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6:00 PM<\/strong> \u2013 The 60-foot holiday tree lights up the waterfront. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6:15 PM<\/strong> \u2013 The first Theatre of Lights<\/a><\/strong> show begins a 20-minute immersive retelling of \u2019Twas the Night Before Christmas<\/em> with Jack Frost and St. Nick. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The magic doesn\u2019t stop after opening night. Theatre of Lights continues with two shows every Friday and Saturday <\/strong>at 6:<\/strong>30 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday showings at 6:30 PM <\/strong>plus special performances on December 23 and 24<\/strong>. Always free, always unforgettable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The season-long festivities make downtown Sacramento a holiday playground.<\/strong> Take the kids on a North Pole Safari<\/strong><\/a>, a free AR scavenger hunt running through December 31. On weekends from 11 AM to 5 PM, Holidays on K Street<\/strong><\/a> transforms into a pedestrian-only zone with live music, Letters to Santa activity, and festive pop-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
