On Wednesday, November 26 at 5:30 PM, the Old Sacramento Waterfront transforms into the Holiday District for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the first performance of the beloved Theatre of Lights. This free, family-friendly tradition blends historic charm with holiday magic right on the streets.

What’s Happening Opening Night

November 26, 2025

5:30 PM – Live performances by local favorites, like Sac Dance Lab and Sacramento’s Gay Men’s Chorus.

6:00 PM – The 60-foot holiday tree lights up the waterfront.

6:15 PM – The first Theatre of Lights show begins a 20-minute immersive retelling of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas with Jack Frost and St. Nick.

The magic doesn’t stop after opening night. Theatre of Lights continues with two shows every Friday and Saturday at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday showings at 6:30 PM plus special performances on December 23 and 24. Always free, always unforgettable.

The season-long festivities make downtown Sacramento a holiday playground. Take the kids on a North Pole Safari, a free AR scavenger hunt running through December 31. On weekends from 11 AM to 5 PM, Holidays on K Street transforms into a pedestrian-only zone with live music, Letters to Santa activity, and festive pop-ups.

Shop Small, Win Big: Holiday Bingo Card

This season, make your holiday shopping a game! Pick up your Small Business Spree Bingo Card at the Old Sacramento Waterfront Visitors Center and explore more than 150 locally owned businesses. Each square on your card is a chance to discover unique gifts, festive treats, and seasonal surprises while supporting small businesses that keep our community thriving.

Complete your Bingo card for a chance to win the exciting grand prize, a family four-pack tickets to Polar Express Train Ride in 2026. From handcrafted jewelry and artisan décor to nostalgic sweets and Sacramento-themed treasures, every stop brings you closer to a win and adds a little extra magic to your holiday outing.

Here are some stores you can visit:

Copper Forged – Handcrafted copper jewelry and artisan accessories.

Ecojoyous – Eco-friendly goods and sustainable home essentials with artisan flair.

Hello Sunshine Sac Collective – A vibrant mix of handmade, vintage, and local creations.

Starting a new business is never easy; it takes vision, grit, and a whole lot of heart. Downtown Sacramento is buzzing with brave entrepreneurs who’ve dared to dream and bring their ideas to life. From cozy cafés and vibrant eateries to unique event spaces, these new businesses are adding fresh flavor, diversity, and a touch of magic to our city’s core.

Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) supports business owners shaping the future of downtown through our Calling All Dreamers program. This program helps entrepreneurs grow and foster their business concepts and prepares them to open brick-and-mortar storefronts downtown. We pair business owners with expert mentors, host hands-on workshops, and strengthen their business plans. Those who complete the program and sign a lease downtown within a year earn cash prizes from the Downtown Sacramento Foundation.

Pittador Brews Specialty Teas & Coffees

The most recent winners, Pittador Brews Specialty Teas & Coffees, won the $20,000 prize and will be opening their doors in Old Sacramento Waterfront soon, so drop by to say “hello”!

Haus of Comedy

Another standout from last year’s Calling All Dreamers program is Haus of Comedy, which earned a $15,000 cash prize after signing a lease downtown! This fun-loving company offers improv classes, live comedy shows, and team-building sessions, and will soon open a dedicated theater space to spark creativity and connection in the central city.

You don’t need to join Calling All Dreamers to open a storefront downtown, but it definitely helps! This year alone, four former Calling All Dreamers will open storefronts downtown. Below you’ll find the 29 businesses who have opened in 2025. Find your new favorite coffee shop, experience, or service provider who’s helping build our city.

This King’s season has had a lot of good twists and turns, and like every game it’s getting good towards the end. If you’re headed to a game this season, check out these bars and restaurants for a good deal.

Pre-Game

These places are sure to get you in the spirit with Kings-themed cocktails, happy hour prices, and their close proximity to the arena!

Cabana Club

Cabana Club offers a great happy hour menu which pridefully totes a $1.50 hot dog. During the happy hour, you can get my favorite thing – a chambong! It’s purple and sparkly and so fun to do with friends.

7th Street Standard and Clayton Club

7th Street Standard and the Clayton Club offer 20% off when you’re wearing Kings gear on game day! Clayton Club is downtown’s tallest rooftop bar!

Burgers Pizza + More

If you’re looking for a meal to fill you up before going into G1C, you have to check out BPM. They’re a Korean fusion restaurant and they offer half-off pizzas on game nights!

Last Stop Saloon

If you’re parking in the Old Sac Garage, check out Last Stop before walking through the tunnel. Last Stop Saloon has mexican fusion foods, great drinks, and arcade games!

Post-Game

Revival

There’s no better place to see the beam than from Revival. This rooftop bar is directly across from G1C and has delicious Kings cocktails on their menu!

Townie

You want to hit Townie after a game, it’ll give you that KEE-GAN MUR-RAY feeling. It’s fun, for the locals, and a great time!

Darling Aviary

Darling Aviary is where you want to go for a view of the beam, great drinks, and good music. With a DJ spinning most nights, you’re sure to have fun.

Ten Ten Room

If you parked at City Hall Garage or just further from the arena, check out downtown’s favorite lounge bar, Ten Ten Room. The vibes are dark and moody and the bartenders make the absolute best cocktails.

Honey and the Trapcat

When you want to eat and drink all night long, hit up Honey and the Trapcat in Old Sacramento. They’re open until 2AM, have specialty bartenders, and good late-night grub.

I’m loving that Sacramento is becoming a “City of Festivals.” It’s so cool that people are traveling to our city to have a great weekend listening to good music, eating great food, and making memories! This is my third year attending GoldenSky and I’m looking forward to the added day of festivities. If you’re going to GoldenSky and have never been to Sacramento, here are a few things you might want to check out while you’re in town.

Getting to the Festival

I’m taking the SacRT bus from 8th & K to and from the festival. If you’re staying in a hotel downtown, I highly recommend it. It’s free and easy. Plus, the years I used ride-share, I waited well over an hour for my ride.  Check out the festival Getting Here page for more info.

Convenience Stores

You can bring one factory-sealed bottle of water (20 oz. Max size) and non-aerosol sunscreen into GoldenSky. View the festival FAQ page for a full list of what you can and cannot bring in.   You’re probably going to want something to eat or drink, or some Tylenol on your way to the festival or when the night is over. Visit one of these stores:

7-11

1341 J St, Sacramento, CA 95814

Open 24 Hours

K Mini Mart

921 K St, Sacramento, CA 95814

Thursday–Friday 6AM–8PM

Saturday–Sunday 6AM–8PM

Sac Boss Shop (Old Sac)

1115 Front St #2, Sacramento, CA 95814

Thursday 11AM–8PM

Friday–Saturday 11AM–9PM

Sunday 11AM–8PM

Breakfast Places

Festival gates open around 12:30PM and you’ll want to fuel your body for a day of walking and dancing, here are a few breakfast spots you might like!

Cafeteria 15L

American food, brunchy vibes, indoor and outdoor seating, and right next to Capitol Park. Make a reservation for quick service!

Old Soul Co. Capitol Mall

Coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, a great view of the Capitol Building and Tower Bridge — plus, you can order ahead.

Steamers

Located in Old Sacramento (our walkable, historic district), this sit-down breakfast spot has a diner feel, with reliable food and drink options!

Estelle Bakery & Pâtisserie

A Sacramento born and bre(a)d bakery, they’re open at 7:00 AM with fresh French pastries, a breakfast and lunch menu, and great coffee.

Bars

The festival ends around 10:00 PM. If you’re not ready to hang your hat up for the night, these bars could be for you!

Last Stop Saloon

An old west-themed bar with great food, drinks, and arcade games.

Honey & The Trapcat

Underground bar with patio space specializing in cocktails, late-night food, and pool tables.

Coin-Op

A bunch of arcade games, pizza by the slice, and walkable from most downtown hotels.

KBAR.DOCO (Inside Koja Kitchen)

Karaoke bar with Korean-Japanese style food.

My post-lunch walks have been feeling like a trek through the Sahara lately. I’m going to have to postpone them to post-work walks. But I’m actually excited about it because Downtown’s Happy Hour is back!

Our Sunset Sips promotion is back for its second year and features specialized drinks priced at $9 or less at more than 20 downtown bars, lounges, and restaurants every Wednesday through August.

Sunset Sips gives you the opportunity to sip on something special while you debrief the day with friends, gossip with coworkers, or meet your neighbors. You’ll probably catch the Downtown Sac team partaking while we reminisce about the cooler days of the past. What I wouldn’t give for it to be 90 degrees again.

The deets:

Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

July 10 through August 28.

$5, $7, and $9 with beer, wine, cocktail and mocktail options.

You can view all of the participating locations here: https://www.godowntownsac.com/events/signature-events/sunset-sips/

So now you’ve got plans to beat the heat for at least one evening a week. Hope to see you there!
